How I Overcame My Fear of Water and Became a Certified Swimming Coach
I never imagined I’d become a swim coach. For years, just standing near a pool made me panic.
It all started back in third grade. At school, there was a swimming pool, and one day, without any warning or preparation, the coach threw me into the water. No instructions, no warm-up—only shock, splashing, and pure panic.
That moment changed everything.
From that day on, I developed a deep fear of water — a genuine, intense aquaphobia. Pools frightened me, beaches made me anxious, and even the sound of splashing water triggered panic attacks.
The Long Battle with Water Phobia
For years, I avoided anything related to swimming. While friends enjoyed the beach, dove into the sea, or swam laps, I stayed frozen on the sidelines.
People often told me, “You’ll get over it.” However, fear doesn’t simply vanish like that. It lingers — until you make the decision to face it head-on.
Eventually, I reached that turning point.
The First Step Toward Becoming a Swim Coach
One morning, looking in the mirror, I told myself: “Enough. I want to swim.”
It wasn’t about competition or being the best—just about feeling free.
I began with what most people overlook: learning how to breathe properly.
Since breathing forms the foundation of swimming — and calmness — I started practicing in a shallow pool with no pressure, focusing solely on breath control.
Later, I progressed to floating, kicking, and slowly rebuilding trust in the water. Although progress was slow, consistency kept me going.
Turning Fear Into Passion
Slowly but surely, my fear began to fade.
Panic gave way to curiosity, and curiosity blossomed into enjoyment.
Before long, I fell in love with the water — its peace, rhythm, and challenge.
That’s when it hit me: I didn’t just want to swim. I wanted to help others overcome their fear too.
Today, I’m proud to be a certified swim coach, accredited by FINA, dedicated to guiding others to conquer their fear of water.

Many view swimming as a simple workout, but it’s far more powerful.
